For example, our EasyPro external pumps are more energy efficient and have a lower energy cost when compared to submersible pumps. Moreover, since these pumps are not submerged in the water, it increases their lifespan. They also offer more efficient filtration, making them ideal for larger ponds or koi ponds that require higher flow rates. Unlike submersible pumps, external pumps are easier to access and maintain, ensuring your water remains pristine with less hassle.
We offer two main types of external pumps: non-priming and self-priming. Each has unique benefits depending on your setup.
Non-priming pumps are ideal for flooded suction applications, where the pump is located below the water level. This could be alongside a fish tank or in a pump chamber next to the pond. In some cases, these pumps can sit above the water level, but you'll need to use a check valve on the suction line to ensure the pump stays primed and ready to operate.
Self-priming pumps are designed to automatically prime themselves once the system is initially filled with water. These pumps can be installed above the water level without requiring a check valve, though adding one can help speed up the priming process. Ideal for setups where the pump cannot be positioned below the waterline, self-priming pumps offer greater flexibility when designing or upgrading your pond system.
